Chinese J-Term Project - Part 1 - Service

    During our 3rd day in the Chinese Cultural J-Term, my classmates and I went to the Chinese Community Center in Houston. We all made traditional Chinese dumplings (or, 饺子，jiao zi). For this activity, we were told exactly how to make dumplings in traditional fashion, and although it was a slight challenge to get these delicious food items exactly as directed, my classmates and I were extremely committed to making these as traditional as they come. Not only was this activity really fun to participate in, but every classmate gave each other a service by making them food, and every classmate showed commitment and perseverance through the culinary traditions that we created.

John Mazziotti Dr. Lee CAS April 10th, 2021 Outdoor Campfire - Activity - LO5     Since I have had both of my Covid-19 vaccines, I decided to have a small outdoor gathering with some of my other vaccinated friends. I have been wanting to have an outside firepit for a very long time, and it's something that really helps me connect with people.  -Now of course, since most of us haven't had a fire outside in a long time, we worked collaboratively to make sure that this fire was safe, warm, and long-lasting. To conclude, my friends and I had a great time with our outdoor firepit, and working together made it even more of a success.

John Mazziotti Dr. Lee CAS December 7th, 2020 Venus flytrap for my house - Service - LO2     Since I live in a rather damp climate in the southern US, there tends to be a medium to a large number of insects present at any given time. Now I have always thought that Venus flytraps were interesting, but I had never considered attaining one until recently. So to help my household with any uninvited guests, I finally got one. I also get to care for another member of our household, and it's not only a plant that is helpful with ridding pests, but it's also a responsibility. -This is a picture of the flytrap. -Additionally, nobody in my house is happy with any pests in the house, so getting this fly trap does a service for my family! CAS Blog - September 2020 - Activity - LO2

John Mazziotti Dr. Lee CAS September 15th, 2020         Activity - Learning Outcome 2 Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process.     Throughout this summer and into this semester, I have been washing my family's cars as well as my own car. This is one of the ways that I got my exercise and some outside time. The main challenge that I had with washing cars was the extended amount of time that it took me to  hand wash each vehicle. Since I'm a perfectionist in some instances, the answer is a very long time(about an hour). So I then invested in a sponge mop that I alternatively turned into a car washing mop. My second challenge was the heat, the heat index outside during this day was about 99ºF. So in turn, I decided to put on a thermal long sleeve I had in order to stay cool.
